We like to share local secrets with our guests. Those hidden gems with the best Savannah has to offer. Today we’re going to give you our top 5 best off the beaten path places to eat.
Basement of the Pink House
Everybody knows that the Pink House is a Savannah favorite with great food and an authentic Savannah atmosphere. What visitors don’t know is that there is a cozy basement lounge that you can settle into for cocktails and dinner. Less formal than upstairs, the basement with its brink walls wraps you up in a real feel of Savannah.
Desposito’s Seafood in Thunderbolt.
Appropriately, Southern Living calls Desposito’s a ‘seafood dive’. A tin roof, antique neon beer signs and day old newspapers for table cloths, there is nothing fancy about Desposito’s. Just minutes from downtown, it’s been open for 50 years and there is a reason. No-nonsense good, fresh seafood. Try anything steamed and you will talk about the deviled crab for the rest of your life.
Masada Café
Skip the long lines at Mrs Wilkes and head just 2 miles west out Bay Street from downtown to Masada Café for the best southern cooking in Savannah. Open for lunch Tuesday – Sunday in the United House of Prayer, the Masada Café has the best soul food and hospitality around. Southern Living featured them as their Delicious Find Of The Month and their red rice recipe. It’s also a bargain under $10.
Wine tastings and TV dinners at Noble Fare
Noble Fare is tucked away off the beaten path down Jefferson Street, but is widely known for culinary excellence. You can’t get in there without a reservation. Only those who closely follow them on Facebook or Twitter hear about their wine tastings and TV dinners. Announced only a few days in advance, the spots go fast. Taste their best wines and enjoy the Chef’s TV dinner. TV dinners are made up of whatever deliciousness the Chef has in the kitchen and are usually around only $15.
Broughton Market Bahn Mi
On the corner of Drayton and Broughton Streets is the Broughton Market. What looks like your run of the mill convenience store, Brought Market has a counter serving Vietnamese Bahn mi sandwiches. Many locals have called them life changing. We’re going to be in big trouble for letting this one out.
